The NEW Challenger® MT400B series offers a tractor to suit almost any application.

The standard specification design of the MT400B ensure efficient operation and exceptional value in an age where costs and performance are being closely examined. Care-free long-term ownership is expected on the MT400B given the simplified maintenance and extended service periods.

Class comfort, quiet cab, superior visibility, exceptional power and control, efficient transmissions, leading electronic linkage control, and exceptional lift capacity are all functions of the advanced design on this tractor.

The MT400B series offers four different horse power rated tractors ranging from 83 ISO hp to 115 ISO hp..

Comfort and control

Ease of operation, spaciousness, and comfort are the key design elements used inthe development of the MT400B series cabin. The result is a cabin which offers exceptional visibility, easily accessible controls, low cabin noise, a great ride, and air conditioning providing excellent circulation whilst maintaining a comfortable temperature.

Standard cabin equipment includes fully adjustable mechanical swivel seat, high efficiency air-conditioning, power sockets, multiple storage pockets and analogue/digital dash. Optional equipment in the cab includes deluxe air suspended seat, and instructor seat.

Implement power

The use of larger and more intensive implements requires the use of a tractor designed to the deliver the power and lift needed for efficient operation, such as the Challenger MT400B series. Industry leading lift capacity of 5,850 kg (at ball end), hydraulic flow of up to 100 lpm, and a power take off of 1000 or 540 means the Challenger can handle size and draw of most manufactured implements.

Easy to operate electronic linkage controls enhance implement management to allow faster and more precise operation in the field – giving a better quality of work. On the road the tractor absorbs frequent shock that occur through the automatic adjustment of lift rams and hydraulic circuits.

Transmission - efficient and simple

The MT400B series tractors feature a simplified 16F by 16R PowerShuttle transmission. The transmission consists of a four speed gear box selector, two ranges and an intermediate gear split both controlled by a gear lever mounted push button.

All ground speed changes are accomplished using the right hand gear selector whilst all direction changes are controlled using the steering column mounted left hand PowerShuttle control. Digital technologies are used in the transmission to simplify operation and service, and to enable more power ranges at more speeds.

The MT400B series tractors have smooth progressive braking supplied by a rear wet, disc braking system. Independent, suspended pedals operate the individual turning brakes. For transport, the pedals can be latched together to provide equal braking effort to each wheel. All tractors feature four-wheel braking during transport with latched brake pedals. Challenger tractors also feature a lever-operated park brake that is independent of the pedal operated brakes.

Industry leading engines

Efficient power is provided through the Caterpillar® 3054, 4 cylinder 4.4 litre engines. This engine has been specifically designed for agricultural use, with a unique long stroke which develops high torque at low engine revs.

An aftercooler is featured on the MT465B model to assist in delivery maximum power in more demanding conditions. The CAT® 3054 engine provides outstanding power for the most demanding jobs whilst maintaining reliability. The tier II CAT engine is electronically fuel injected to optimise swirl and increase efficiency.

True four wheel drive

True four wheel drive is standard on the MT400B series to propel the tractor through tough spots by way of an in-cab controlled front and rear differential locking system. Whilst other systems offer four wheel drive, true four wheel drive on the Challenger ensures power is equally distributed to each wheel as opposed to being sent to the wheel which has the least traction. This system uses electronics to automatically activate the differential lock to ensure minimal wheel slip.
